The current students and educators of the Minnesota State University Mankato need to have their StarID to access the MNSU D2L Brightspace online portal. The StarID is a username assigned by MNSU to use across Minnesota State for logging into many services including D2L Brightspace and email. It replaces many login IDs with one central ID, one password everywhere.
If you do not know your StarID or need to activate it, you can do it online through the Minnesota State StarID Self Service. For that,
- Go to the MNSU StarID Self Service portal at starid.minnstate.edu
- Navigate to the right and select the “Active my StarID” or “What is my StarID” box based on your requirement.
- Choose one of the options from Tech ID, email address, verification code, library card, or state employee number.
- Click the “Continue” button to find or activate your StarID.
How to Log In to MNSU D2L Brightspace Online Account:
Once activated, you can use your StarID and log into your MNSU D2L Brightspace Online Account whenever you want in a few steps as given below.
- Visit the Minnesota State University Mankato’s D2L Brightspace official online portal, d2l.mnsu.edu
- Select the blue button of “Sign on with StarID” located in the left middle of the page.
- Enter your StarID and Password in their fields and hit the green “Sign On” button.
MNSU D2L Brightspace Non-StarID Login:
Even if you do not have a StarID, you can log in to your MNSU D2L Brightspace Online Account to access your course and classes virtually. For that,
- Go to the same D2L Brightspace website at d2l.mnsu.edu
- Click on the “Non-StarID Login” link at the bottom of the sign-in box on the left-hand side.
- Enter your MNSU Login Username and Password in the fields and hit the “Log In” button.

How to Reset MNSU D2L Brightspace Account Login Password Online:
The MNSU D2L Brightspace users can reset or change their login password if needed. For that, all you need to do is open the Minnesota State University Mankato’s D2L Brightspace official online portal, d2l.mnsu.edu. Click the “Forgot your password?” link below the ‘Sign on with StarID’.
Alternatively, you can directly go to the MNSU StarID Self Service portal at starid.minnstate.edu. Select the first box, “Reset my Password”, to choose one of the following options and provide information according to it to verify your identity.
- Tech ID or the 8-digit Student ID
- Email Address registered with your StarID account
- Verification Code and Last Name or Email Address which the code was sent in
- Barcode from the library card at your MNSU university
- 8-digit State Employee Number
If you already know your D2L Brightspace password and would like to change it, sign in to your profile first using your current StarID account credentials. Enter the old password and then set a new one.
Remember, your StarID password will expire after a certain time. You should change it at least every 180 days. If the password expires, the StarID system will notify you 21, 7, or 1 day before it via your preferred email address.
