THE Asia University Rankings 2025

In the Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings 2025, made public on April 23rd, KIIT Deemed to be University, Bhubaneswar, has once again shown strong performance, moving up to 184th in Asia, a considerable advancement from its 196th rank in the 2024 edition. This upward trajectory underscores KIIT’s consistent development and its increasing prominence within the global academic community. KIIT, which includes both public and private universities, is ranked as the eighth-best university in India in this most current rating. KIIT has outperformed other prestigious Indian universities in attaining this status. It has also continued to hold its position as Eastern and Northern India’s top deemed university. Notably, KIIT has also achieved the second-place ranking in India for the Sports Science course.

The 2025 rankings encompass 853 universities spanning 35 countries and territories. These rankings evaluate institutions based on their performance in research, teaching, knowledge transfer, and international outlook. Utilizing 18 performance indicators, these rankings serve as a crucial resource for students, academics, policymakers, and industry leaders worldwide.

Prof. Achyuta Samanta, the Founder of KIIT, KISS, and KIMS, conveyed his sincere appreciation to the committed faculty, staff, students, alumni, and supporters who have been instrumental in this accomplishment. He remarked, “This recognition is a testament to our collective dedication and the values-driven ethos that characterizes KIIT. We share this success with everyone who believes in our principles.” KIIT has consistently been recognized in prominent global rankings, including the THE World University Rankings and QS Rankings. The university has also garnered significant international accreditations such as IET and ABET, reinforcing its standing as a global hub for excellence in higher education. It is important to note that despite its relatively young age of 27 years, KIIT has surpassed many long-established institutions, some with histories exceeding 50 years. Furthermore, it was just twenty-one years ago that KIIT was granted the status of a declared university.

In addition, a number of Indian universities in the 201-250 range, such as BITS Pilani, JNU, and BHU, exhibit promise. BITS Pilani excels in Research Quality (71.9) and Industry Engagement (42.0). JNU has a balanced profile with strong Teaching (49.7) and Research Environment (27.4).

LPU, also in the 201-250 band, has high Research Quality (81.4) and good International Outlook (48.8), but lags in Teaching (25.2) and Industry Engagement (24.0).

Shoolini University is India’s top private university, ranking 146th in Asia and 5th in India overall. It’s the No.1 Private University in India for the second year, with strong Research Quality (81.5, 2nd in India) and International Outlook (71.4, 4th in India). It also ranks well in Research Environment (14th in India), Teaching (49th in India), and Industry Engagement (67th in India).

VC Atul Khosla noted this top ranking reflects their focus on research, global ties, and innovation. India’s increasing influence in academia is demonstrated by the THE Asia University Rankings 2025. While top public universities remain leaders, private institutions like Shoolini are narrowing the gap through research and internationalization. India’s universities are set for a bigger global academic role by aligning with global standards.

Appearing in the Top 200 Asian universities for the third straight year emphasizes its established momentum as a growing academic leader. These rankings show both progress and challenges for Indian higher education. With support and global engagement, India’s universities can rise further.
